Momos are a type of steamed filled dumpling, popular across the Himalayan regions. Nowadays momos are everyone’s favorite snacks. Indians are making momos in different flavors and varieties like gravy momos, steamed, fried, tandoori, afghani momos. People experiment with the stuffing of the momos from basic cabbage and ginger to maggie or macaroni.
Friends, Today we are making Veg Steamed Momos with some Punjabi tadka (Punjabi Chatkare) in the filling.
Let’s get started and follow our step by step photos on how to make momos at home.
*Ingredients*
For Momos Sheet
Ingredients:
• 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
• 2 Tbsp Oil
• 6-7 tbsp of water for kneading the dough
Filling Ingredients:
• 1 Cup Cabbage – finely chopped
• 1/2 Inch Ginger – finely chopped (optional)
• 2-3 Green chilli – finely chopped
• 2 Capsicum – finely chopped
• 1 Onion – finely chopped
• ½ cup Soya nuggets/granules – finely chopped
• Salt to taste
• 1 tbsp Oil
• 1 Tbsp Meat masala (optional)/use black pepper
• 1 tbsp Momos chutney (Check Recipe Section)
Steaming the Momos/Dumplings:
• 1 Large Deep Pan/ Steamer
• 2-3 Cups of Water – to fill the pan halfway through
*Instructions (Method for making momos)*
Making the Filling:
1. Chop all the ingredients
2. Add all the filling ingredients in a pan
3. Add 1 tbsp oil, 1 tbsp Meat masala and 1 tbsp of momos chutney
4. Mix well and cook a little bit (Don’t overcook; vegetable should be little crunchy)
Preparing the Momos Sheet:
1. In a bowl, mix flour and water.
2. Now, knead the flour mix into a soft dough.
3. Put 1 tbsp oil and knead again
4. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside for15 minutes.
Preparing the Veg Momos:
1. Divide the dough into small balls.
2. Roll in dry flour and roll into small disc keeping the edges thin and the center thick.
3. Take 1Tsp stuffing and place it in the center of the rolled disc.
4. Lift one edge of the cover and start folding the memos towards the top (round shape).
5. Crimp and seal the top.
6. Similarly, fill the stuffing in each cover and fold the desired shape (round, moon, wonton, etc).
Steaming the Momos:
1. Heat water in the Steamer/pan.
2. Apply a little oil onto the base of the strainer and place the momos in the basket (leaving some gaps in between)
3. Cover it and Steam for 10-12 minutes or till done.
4. Remove the basket from the pan.
5. Transfer the momos to a serving plate and serve hot with Momos Chutney/Mayonnaise/sauce.

**Tip: You can use the leftover momos filing in making stuffed parathas as well.
