Namak pare is a crispy, tasty and savoury fried snack which is quite popular in north India. It’s an all time tea-time snacks for Punjabis.

Let’s get started, with the following ingredients you can make crispy snacks for your tea time:
Ingredients:
• 1 cup maida (all purpose flour)
• 1 teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds) – optional
• 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper – optional
• 1 teaspoon cumin seeds – optional
• 4-5 tablespoon oil or ghee – using sunflower oil
• ½ to ¾ cup water
• salt to taste
• oil for frying
Instructions
making dough for namak pare
1. Take All-purpose flour (maida)
2. Add salt together
3. Now, Add the oil or ghee. Mix well.
4. The texture of the flour will get changed, once oil is properly mixed with flour.
5. Now, Add water little by little and start to knead the dough.
6. The dough should not be too soft, but firm.
7. Keep the dough on rest for 20-25 mins
making namak pare in 2 shapes (Diamond and Square)
Diamond Shape
1. Take medium sized balls from the dough and roll them on a dusted flour.
2. Roll and spread into a disc completely neither too thin nor too thick.
3. With a serrated knife make criss cross patterns, first cut vertically then cut diagonally on the rolled dough.
4. Remove the diamond shaped patterns and deep fry them in hot oil till crisp and golden browned.
5. Drain them on paper napkins to remove excess oil.
6. For Square Shape: Cut the roll in vertical pattern then twist the disc and again cut it vertically
7. Deep fry them the same way as diamond shaped ones and drain them on paper napkins.
8. Once they cool down, then store them in an airtight box.
9. Namak para is ready to serve with tea or as a snack.
